Louis Foster netted his third straight top two finish and gained on the Indy NXT points lead with a strong weekend at Road America.
The 20-year-old Foster qualified first in his group in very tricky conditions following heavy rain – which was second overall as the track was much drier and faster for the second group.
He tried to take the lead at the start but ran wide and lost second, but fought back past on lap 13 and pressured race leader and team-mate Jamie Chadwick to the end.
“You can’t ask for much more than 1-2 for the Andretti Global team,” said Foster, who is backed by Copart, a global leader in online auto auctions.
“We’ve reduced the deficit to the championship leader and we’ve had a decent run with two wins and a second.
“We have to keep taking the points on the table and chipping away at it. Andretti has been doing a fantastic job, I’m hopeful we can continue this run a while longer yet.”
Foster has been working hard on his qualifying performances in recent races and is yielding the benefit with the help of the team.
He congratulated Chadwick on becoming only the third female winner in Indy NXT history immediately after the race.
“Massive congratulations to Jamie,” he said.
“She’s done an amazing job. She was the woman to beat this weekend. Really, really fast.
“More than happy for the team."
Foster and Indy NXT have one weekend off before a double-header at Laguna Seca near Monterey, California, on the west-coast.
The races on June 22-23 will take the season past the halfway point with six races remaining afterwards.
“We know these double-headers are really important,” added Foster.
“Laguna Seca is always a fun place to go and we’ll keep working on qualifying well and putting ourselves in the best position for the race.”
