Andretti Global driver Louis Foster aims to continue his strong momentum as he faces a double-header Indy NXT weekend in California.
Foster, 20, is second in the Indy NXT championship and has won two of the series’ last three races, finishing second in the other one last time out at Road America.
This weekend’s Laguna Seca event provides two races, which will take the Indy NXT by Firestone season past its halfway point.
“These double-header weekends are always vital in the championship,” says Foster, who is backed by Copart, a global leader in online auto auctions.
“Everything happens really quickly and before you know it, not just one but two races are on the board and it can have a massive impact on the points if you make any mistakes here. Equally, it can have a big impact if you get everything right.
“Part of the recent strong run we've had has been qualifying better and that’s going to be crucial to continue that here this weekend to have a good position to fight from in both races.”
Foster scored a podium in last year’s event at the track, and has three top fives in four road course races this season.
Being an old-fashioned, undulating road course that has hosted many major championships and famous moments over the years, it makes this event one drivers like to circle on the calendar.
“The resurfacing certainly made things interesting at this track last year,” adds Foster.
“It’s such a classic circuit that I’m sure many people know well. The Corkscrew is what people usually talk about but the rest of the circuit has plenty of challenges, too. It’s faster than some people might think and it's flowing with plenty of elevation change.
“It’s certainly fun and rewarding when you get it right.”
In the UK you’ll be able to watch Louis race live on Sky Sports F1 with race 1 on Saturday at 8.25pm and race 2 on Sunday at 8.55pm.
